My groom awaits

He waits by the altar
Waiting with the priest
Waiting with family
Waiting with friends

This aisle takes forever
Just 10 steps?!
When will I get to him
When will I get to hold him
To kiss him and claim him as mine
And me as his

My groom sees my stains
I have to stop
I have to clean
I have to be clean for him
Clean & Pure

Ohh! Damn
Damn these voices
The voices in my head
Asking me to go back
Asking me to turn?
Turn? Or should I turn?
This love. It’s forever
This marriage is for eternity
This life
And the next

These voices utter words
Words drenched with disgust!
They say ‘Your groom is ugly’
‘Just look at his scars!’
I yell back..
‘Are you sure?!’
My soul whispers..
‘Am I sure..?’

The answer brings red fluid to my eyes
My white dress turns crimson in my sight

Not anymore
Will I be able to walk the road with him?
Without being afraid?
Will I bear His name?
Shout His name for all to see?
Wear His ring as a halo
His glory be as radiant raiment on me?

Then I remember Joe

…Joe was perfect
He had all the money in the world
All the time
All the jewellery

I remember my dear Kunle
Kunle had the softest lips

Lanre was a god!

10 steps to the altar
I am suddenly not so sure

Should I turn?
The uncertainty bites

5 steps
Wait.. WAIT!!

His eyes!
They gleam with perfection

His scars!
Its depth speak of love

His lips
Curved with bliss & sincerity

His whole being
